Chapter Fifteen

I watched as his jaw dropped and his expression darkened. “Oh, fuck no. The hell you are. I don’t care if you won the motherfucking Olympic gold for sharpshooting. Let someone else do it. Not you, baby. Promise me.”

“I’m not going to lie to you again. If I get the chance to take him out, I will. Even in prison, his reach could be universal. And if he somehow finds out you’re alive, all bets will be off. He’ll send someone to execute your mom, just because. There’s only one way to make sure you and your family are safe. The monster has to die. He’s murdered enough officers and agents in law enforcement; no one will care. They won’t even look into it unless it’s to pin a medal on the hero.”

A twitch developed in Vivian’s cheek as I spoke. I knew he was concerned and fearful for my life. But I wasn’t going to sit by and allow another person I cared about be killed by this animal. Gold had murdered too many agents I had known.

“You’re a Fed. You can’t just assassinate someone, even somebody as evil as Roman. It’s your job. Your life. Your career.”

I sat on his lap, brushing his hair back so I could look into his eyes. “I told you this mission was off book. It’s what we call a ‘dark’ op. We never planned to take him alive. The directive was always to exterminate.”

“What about me? What was the… directive for me, initially?”

Guilt bled into every pore. I hated not telling him the truth about WITSEC. I was disgusted in myself for being thrilled that I would be responsible for the apprehension of Roman Gold. Naturally, Damien Quist would get all the credit. Only the dark team involved would ever know the truth. And I was saddened because my time with Vivian had been too brief. Long enough for me to fall in love, but not enough time to become a part of his life.

“Summerford and White should be back anytime now. Which is kind of a shame because I would really love to take you to bed.” I stared at him seductively. My wish right now was to get his thoughts away from the last few hours. “They can’t know about my suspicions.”

“Really now, you do find the oddest times to be horny. Nothing like a sordid tale full of murder and mayhem to make you wet.” He wedged my hand between his thighs. His dick began to swell under my touch.

“Now don’t start something you can’t finish,” I whispered, giving his erection a gentle squeeze. “When we fuck, I want hours with you, not some quickie.”

He lifted me onto his lap, and I heard the sound of my zipper. “What are you doing, Vivian?”

“I may not be able to fuck you in twenty minutes, but you’d be surprised what I can accomplish with my hands.” He crushed his mouth to mine as he spoke around the kiss. “Lift up for me a little.
